Dario Urfer’s search on Google Earth for a region to visit in South East Asia immediately highlighted Mulut Seribu with its beautiful lagoons and islands. He could not resist the urge to visit the region and went in September 2018. Dario’s attempt to communicate in English led him to the friendly and welcoming Frengki Manafe who was the only English speaker he came across. They quickly became friends and Dario finally abandoned the rest of his holiday plans and spent the entire time on Rote Island where he deeply connected with the locals.
Dario was shown some very beautiful unaccommodated landscapes and with the consent of, and motivation from the ever-friendly local population, he came up with the idea of developing the region and equipping the population with necessary tools to adapt to the fast-growing tourism sector.
When he came back to Switzerland, he told his business partners about this idea. They were overly excited about it and quickly brought together a team of six motivated young Swiss entrepreneurs. The newly formed board came to Bali, where they learned the essentials of building with bamboo and got the support of Ibuku and their whole network of architects, engineers and craftsmen. After the course they came to Rote to find local business partners and the perfect place to start a business. After the location scouting, everyone agreed on making the island of Lemaina the center of our efforts, since its potential exceeded our expectations. Its diversity is unique for the area and easy to promote internationally. Since then, we are focusing on the implementation of the project.

The region of Mulut Seribu (Indonesia), with its beautiful landscapes, lagoons, and proximity to the Ocean offers one of the best tourist destinations in the world. The hospitable nature of the population complements the attractiveness of the region. The growing need for Eco-Tourism, the desire of the local population to collaborate in the development and sustainable growth of the region and great love and friendship between the prospective investors and the population of Rote Island have given birth to the project Lemaina.
